Croatian post and telecom is immediatly after announce of independence Republic of Croatia 30th May 1991. year install phone booths with charge by phonecard. For quality services for tourist in the summer of 1991. in the coast area (Istra, Primorje, Dalmacija) telecom install phonebooths and phonecards of GPT company from Great Britain. Phonecards have from one side viseable magnetic tape with impulses. In continnental area of state telecom install phonebooths manufactored by Amper and phonecards french company Gemplus. Phonecard for communicaton and a new media for advertiseing immediatly found passioned phonecard collectors and start a global hobbie. Phonecards are collected and exchanged worldwide. The chip is connected to a gold (or sometimes silver or nickel) contact above the chip which can be of various shapes according to the manufacturer of the card. Sometimes cards of the same design are supplied by different manufacturers and the cards are then seen as quite different from a collecting point of view, but each kind of chip has an identification code so that it is easy to classify the cards.There is a severl different types of chip used in Croatia (Giesecke & Devrient 2, Germany and Gemplus 3, France)
